SUPERGRASS at WEBSTER HALL
First off, Supergrass was really LOUD. My ears are still adjusting. Perhaps their reputation precedes them in this respect. Within our section, I spotted three people wearing earplugs. Usually, orange earplugs are a cardinal sin of fandom. In this case, I would have geeked out gladly.
As Will pointed out last night, one can tell a professional band immediately. Supergrass played a high-voltage, distortion laden show. The band’s frontman, Gaz Coombes, is a thoroughbred rocker with a voice that is one part melodic, one part growl. Also, he’s a very capable lead guitarist.
All things considered, Supergrass was great. The band played close to two hours. Webster Hall was packed and there was a great level of energy throughout their performance. What more could one ask of a band?
